Internship 1 (CBS19)
My mentor for my first internship was Travis Koshko. Travis works for the CBS19 Weather Station and is the lead Meteorologist there.
I worked with Travis to learn exactly what weather sites meteorologists use to get the weather and how to compare sites to get an accurate forecast. I also learned more about the news part, how meteorologists create a new cast and then present it, and other things.

My first time meeting Travis, he showed me around the studio and what everybody did; Marketing, Production, Weather and more. Then, he showed me how he starts his job: Looking at models and different websites to see how they compare on the upcoming forecast.
He showed me how they compile data from multiple sources to get averages that they put in their shows and information

Next he showed me how they setup their forecast. I learned how they take all of those number and put them into generated images that can be used to showcase on the news channel. Each graphic is used in it's own way, and can be setup to be used whenever the meteorologist needs it. Some graphics will be automated generated using the numbers from the document, but others will need to be manually edited.
Next, I learned how meteoroligsts have to do other tasks as well. They have to post on social media and on their website pages to make sure that everyone is able to get the weather even if they don't watch the news.

Finally, Travis and other meteorologists showcased their weather and news to the people. While they were doing that, when Travis had a break, we looked at some severe weather that was happening. We used apps like Radarscope to look at past and present tornados to see how to recognize them. This was extremely cool because tornados are deadly but interesting, and learning how to spot them and just overall use radar is pretty nice. These are different radars that can be used to spot a tornado. For example: The normal radar is Refelectivity. Storm Relative Velocity to see how the winds are moving. Differential Reflectivity to see if particles are in the air. Finally Correlation Coefficient to see if the particles are vertical or horizontal.

Internship 2 (NBC29)
My mentor for my 2nd internship is Dominique Smith. Dominique Smith is a meteorologist at the news station of NBC29.
While at the news station, I worked with Dominique Smith to learn more about Meteorology as well as the news side of it. I job shadowed Dominique Smith and saw how the show was set up as well as how the show runs. I also saw what software is the best to use, as well as got to practice weather journals and recording myself.

At the news station, I worked with Dominique and got introduced to everyone there. I was then shown how she gets her information and exactly how she puts it together into a weather segment on NBC 29. Dominique showed me all of the software she uses and other information that might be important when figuring out upcoming forecasts. I learned how they put together their graphics, by looking at the NOAA and other sites, they put together information that they then put in a graphic that will be broadcasted.

The next day I went there, I expanded my knowledge of how meteorologists set up weather even more! I watched Dominique look at the official weather forecast and then use that to determine numbers and exactly what would happen, like first alert. Then, I watched Dominique look at the radar and even more things that they have to do for their show.

The very last thing I did was very interesting. Dominique let me hook up to the microphone and practice a weather segment for a recording. While it wasn't perfect as we didn't have time to practice, I did get experience on how presenting in front of the camera would be. I learned that a lot of times you need to know where to stand because otherwise you will end up covering up important graphics.

I enjoyed my time with Dominique. I feel that I learned a lot of new things that I can use to determine if I want to go into news weather, or just weather overall. I am very thankful for the opportunity and hope that I can do more things like this in the future.
